    Funny, small world.

I could be wrong but I think I've met Cole. Seems like a nice guy. I'm bummed we haven't been able to game together.

Some of you need to back off from that thread. They said they had fun and will try it again. There is no call to go in all indignant and defensive.

I haven't read the comments, but good lord people please don't comment over there. Leave it alone.

Didn't mean to stir up an ants' nest by linking it here. Just thought it was an interesting example of how when different groups try a game for the first time, the results can be wildly different! Apologies!

I also just really like reading his stuff =P

    Hi,

I ran this session. We had fun, and it was mostly cut short by technical difficulties. We're discussing a date for the next session. Yes, I could have done some things better, but running everything from my head with a bit of page flipping BWG, I'd say I didn't do too shabby.

It's awesome you had fun, and I didn't mean to suggest that you did a bad job in the op, just that it seemed a bit awkward and bumpy from the AP post. No insult intended. =P

Sorry Luke, I have an Instinct.

But definitely trying to be informative rather than indignant.

Are you folks kidding me? That shit is hilarious. I don't care if they played Burning Wheel "correctly" or not, shit was hilarious. In the comments, when asked about the characters' Beliefs, Zak said, "They were pregens with the scenario so their beliefs were all like 'I will try hard to be like a character in a tale of epic fantasy'". XD

I love Burning Wheel, and Luke's games in general, and will argue their merit with my friends, but that's just funny.

Also, this is really fascinating, from Cole:

Really for my part a lot of it was just how confusing the whole framework was. How do I make my beliefs inform my play? I'm not sure. How do I make my instincts inform my play? I'm not sure. How do I make my Grief inform my play? I'm not sure. Like, I want to work these threads into what I'm doing, because they're supposed to be at the heart of play, but they seem to have a way that they "work" and I'm not sure of that way and become confused.

Part of that may have been him not knowing the rules/poor info from the GM, but part of it I think is just how different play is in BW from the D&D that Zak & his friends play. They're encountering something genuinely different and grappling with it intelligently. I doubt that it'll become a staple for them, as their group seems to enjoy a different kind of play, but it's fun and kind of admirable to watch them mess about with Burning Wheel.
