I love talking about this stuff. If you want a sounding board or brainstorming partner, I'm happy to participate.
My mistakes were obvious, I was wondering how often others drifted their NPCs. I posted that survey about when playersí changed their beliefs on google+.
Now here is the big secret. Iím not even playing BW =/. Iím playing SWN using Adam Koebelís BWG styleô goals*. My players are dnd 3.5 enthusiast, and SWN was probably the closest ďnon traditionalĒ RPG i could get them to play. Theyíre use to paizo adventure paths. This is their first sandbox game.
Itís not perfect, and I have to maintain BWG mentality through sheer force of will. I brought up playing BWG but they didnít like the sound of all the mechanics. I am learning a lot about beliefs and how to challenge them. How it is important to have player buy in and maintain transparency. I undermine beliefs too often, but Iím learning.
*They have goals a lot like beliefs, but are awarded exp instead of artha. Itís like a home-made bicycle I made after watching someone ride a BMX in the X games.
