Errata
It Revolves on This
Obstacles to Overcome
In the Difficulty by Obstacle sub-section, the text at the top of p. 15, above the chart, says that dark gray is hard and light gray is easy, but these colors are reversed on the chart.
Testing Your Abilities
Exponent 0
The second sentence in this section, p. 37, should contain a comma and read "You may not receive help, FoRK into it or spend artha on it."
Advancing Abilities
Number of Tests Required for Advancement
In the Advancing Skills sub-section on p. 42, the "Exponent 1-4" and "Exponent 5+" entries both state that skills require a number of challenging tests equal to one third of the exponent (rounded up). The chart below doesn't follow this rule but is correct [1].
Helping and Advancement
In the second paragraph of the example on p. 46, the text states that without help the test would count as difficult for advancement (3D vs Ob 2), but because of the help it counts as routine instead. The table on p. 41, however, shows that 3D vs Ob 2 is already a routine test.
The Artha Wheel
Spending Artha
In the Fate sub-section's "Luck" entry on p. 66, Perception is mentioned as a skill that is already open-ended. This is a hold-over from earlier editions: Perception is not open-ended in Burning Wheel Gold.
Character Burner
Lifepaths
Dwarves
The Hauler lifepath (p. 111) lists Hauler as a skill. This should be Hauling.
Elves
The Ranger lifepath (p. 136) lists a Gray (with an "a") Mantle trait, but it's Grey (with an "e") Mantle in the trait list and index.
The Etharch lifepath (p. 136) lists the Voice of Thunder as an Elven Spell Song. It is actually a skill song.
Men
Duke LP (p. 179) lists itself in the "Requires" entry: "Requires: Duke or Knight and the Your Grace trait". Perhaps this should be "Magnate, Constable or Justiciar", as for Count just above it?
The Exorcist lifepath (p. 186) mentions Exorcist Ritual as a training skill, but there is no such skill. There is, however, an Exorcism Ritualist trait (p. 324) that looks on the money, but it isn't referenced in any lifepath and Exorcist should probably have it.
The Officer's Mate lifepath (p. 192) has Page as one requirement, but then in Restrictions says this must be second lifepath. In Burning Wheel Revised, Officer's Mate was restricted to being a character's second or third lifepath: that is presumably still the case here.
Sorcery Spells
The Mask spell's Impetus and Element entries are reversed on p. 216: it should be "Element: Heaven" and "Impetus: Control".
The casting times for the Shards and Spark Shower spells (both p. 219) are listed as "1 Actions" rather than "1 Action".
Orcs
The Servant of the Gate lifepath (p. 229) has Hauling as a Trait; presumably it was supposed to be in the Skill list.
The entry for Black Iron Shield (p. 242) should say "WS 1" rather than "Slow".
Lists
Traits
Noblesse Oblige (p. 337) has a trailing asterisk for no apparent reason.
The Rim of the Wheel
Range and Cover
In the example given on pp. 417–418, the Orc's Sneak In action on the first volley brings the Elf to optimal range. So when the Elf closes using Flank in the second volley, he should end up being Too Close to Shoot rather than still at optimal range.
Fight
Fight Actions
There are a number of differences between the obstacle tables in BWG (pp. 441-450) and the action matrix (BWG_FightAction_r11.pdf). The correct ruling is in bold green. (I'm not sure yet in the other cases, though Luke is saying the book should be considered correct over the matrix where it's not otherwise specified [2].)
| Your Action | Opponent's Action | BWG | Fight Matrix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Great Strike (p. 442) | Block | vs Skill | Ob 1 [3] |
| Throw Person (p. 450) | Block | vs Skill | |
| Throw Person (p. 450) | Counterstrike | vs Skill | |
| Throw Person (p. 450) | Lock | vs Power | |
The Throw Person errata noted above appear to all be corrected in the BWG_FightAction_r13.pdf Fight matrix revision. I've left the r11 entries for reference. --Trystero 17:12, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
On p. 442, the Ob for Great Strike vs. Block is listed as "vs Skill", though it should be "Ob 1" (as it is in the Fight action matrix).
Fight Scripting Sheet
Attacking while prone is +2 Ob (BWG p. 445), but the scripting sheet erroneously [4] says +3 Ob. Corrected in the BWG_Fight_r13.pdf revision of the scripting sheet now available from the store. --Trystero 17:00, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
The Anatomy of Injury
Stop the Bleeding
In the Staunching the Flow sub-section's Stop the Bleeding Times entry on p. 492, there is no time multiplier listed for the Bloodletting skill. From the rogue comma after "Khirurgy" in the penultimate sentence, I'd guess that Bloodletting was meant to appear in this sentence and thus take 5 minutes per obstacle point. --Trystero 17:51, 18 January 2013 (UTC)
Sorcery
Some spells are marked as up / ^ but don't mention how extra successes can be spent. Does this mean extra success can only be spent on the Die of Fate (up to three as mentioned on p. 506)? Or can Area of Effect be expanded as well? This includes a bunch of the attack/Destroy spells: Fire Breath, Fire Fan, Havoc's Hand, Rain of Fire, Spark Shower, Storm of Lightning, White Fire.. See The Basic Spell Cast, pp. 502-503. --Thor Olavsrud 09:34, 4 January 2012 (MST)
Riding and Mounted Combat
Horse Stride is given as 13 in Range and Cover (p. 407) and Fight (p. 430), but as 12 in Mannish Resources (p. 203), Stride (p. 530), and the Long Limbed trait in this chapter (p. 540).
Niggles
Of the five times Dro's name appears on page 2, it is misspelled "Frozdalski" once. --Thor Olavsrud 09:35, 4 January 2012 (MST)
In the Table of Contents, p. 5, the "Playing the Game" section is listed under the "Appendices" heading, but the actual section (pp. 548-552) appears before the beginning of the Appendices on p. 553.
On p. 58, the Call-On Traits example says "Revered is a call-on for Oratory," but there is no Revered trait defined in the book. (This is very niggly.) --Trystero 18:45, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
The last five words on page 416 overlap with the page border art ("...arrow, but chose not to.").
Move the comma in "In a Bloody Versus, test both players divide their weapon skills..." to "In a Bloody Versus test, both players divide their weapon skills..." on page 426.
On page 431, "Consult the Opponent's Disadvantage by Weapon table on the next page" is actually on the current page.
On page 437, "After determining a winner and loser, consult the Positioning table to determine the effects for this upcoming exchange.", but shouldn't this be Opponent's Disadvantage by Weapon table from page 431?
Extraneous closing parenthesis in But I'm Behind A Wall! on page 468.
On page 483, Shields at Inside Striking Distance references a concept that no longer exists.
On page 503 is an unnecessary "the": "In Range and Cover the an action..." should be "In Range and Cover an action...".
Sentence fragment "or another example from the Dwarven lifepaths." in the middle of page 529.
On page 531, side margin text says "Measurement, Distance and Movement" but it should say "Distance and Movement" to match the section title.
On page 546, "Aristeia or Minor Epiphany can be used to create this effect", but Minor Epiphany is a type of Aristeia. Should it read "Aristeia or Epiphany"?
On page 547 under Pushing Past White, semicolon should be a comma.
On page 552 under Role of the Players, the second to last paragraph (beginning "If you're all fired up,") mentions the Character Burner as a separate book. This is likely a holdover from Burning Wheel Revised.
On page 561, side margin text says "Weapons Appendix" but it should say "The Die of Fate".
On odd pages 563-571, side margin text says "Rogues' Gallery" but it should say "Burning Rogues".
